New York Kenyans Association (NYKA) came about in 2021 from discussions between a few people on the lack of a cohesive Kenyan community in New York and the need for one. The community started with a WhatsApp group of 15 people to over 150 people over the course of a year and a half.
Bringing Kenyan’s together in New York regardless of affiliation to have a cohesive and progressive Kenyan/American family in New York where we thrive in all spheres of life
To promote growth and continuity within the group, a founding board of 20 people was set up and worked on defining the core values and mission statement of the organization.
NYKA is focused on building the New York Kenyan Community along four pillars
Being a resource to the community on physical, mental and spiritual health with the goal of enabling a balanced, fulfilling and productive life in the USA.
Being a resource to the community on the knowledge, skill and discipline of financial wellbeing with the aim of ensuring the ability to not only save for the future and emergencies, but also grow financially.
Being a resource the community can lean on to ensure they have the right skills, network and certifications to properly position themselves whenever the opportunity arises in their career of choice
Creating a safe and inclusive space for the youth within the community to not only learn about their Kenyan culture, but to offer guidance and be a resource as they seek to understand the rapidly changing world we currently live in
