Governance & Rules of Engagement

Purpose

Build a cohesive Kenyan community in New York.

No politics

Bringing the community together has been attempted by many in the past but failed due to political differences. We will therefore strive to avoid the kinds of political discourse that can sow division.

No tribalism

Good discussion is healthy, but we all know the types of hurtful tribal discussions to avoid.

No business solicitation

While our goal is to strengthen the Kenyan community and its presence in New York, please refrain from random soliciting for individual businesses. We will host a SOKO Market Place page where entrepreneurs and service providers can list their products/services. Please note that the exception to this policy is our national airline, Kenya Airways.

No fundraising for bereavement/ assistance projects unless under very unique circumstances, in which case a separate forum will be set up for the respective bereavement/assistance project

No fighting in the group.

No foul and offensive language.

In the quest to build a strong NYKA community, please be aware that membership is restricted to New York residents only. Please notify the Board should you relocate permanently out of state.

Our Mission

Bringing Kenyan’s together in New York regardless of affiliation to have a cohesive and progressive Kenyan/American family in New York where we thrive in all spheres of life
