Our Founder's Bio

Dr Ngugi Mukora Kinyungu

Dr Ngugi Mukora Kinyungu hails from the town of Limuru, Kenya and remembers fondly his days attending school at Limuru model nursery school and later Limuru Town primary school. He went on to high school at Lenana high school where he played rugby for the school team.

Dr Kinyungu came to the USA after high school and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska and his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis. He went on to complete his residency training in anesthesiology at the University of Chicago. He then pursued specialty training earning a fellowship in pain management at Loyola University Chicago. He then earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the Zarb school of business at Hofstra University. After spending many years in the midwest, Dr Kinyungu relocated his family to New York in 2013.

Dr Kinyungu has over a decade of experience in anesthesia and pain management and is the director of education as well as the residency program director at the department of anesthesiology at South SHore university Hospital, Northwell. Dr Kinyungu is also an assistant professor of anesthesiology at the Zucker school of medicine at Hofstra. Dr Kinyungu is the founder of ITAV pain management in Plainview New York.

Dr Kinyungu serves as the co-chair of the Equity , Diversity and Inclusion committee at South shore University

Dr Kinyungu is the founder of Limuru Public Library, the only public library in his hometown of Limuru Kenya.

His hometown and Kenya remain near and dear to Dr Kinyungu and In 2021 Dr Kinyungu with the help of several other Kenyans sought to build a Kenyan community here in New York, and together they founded the New York Kenyans Association (NYKA).

When not at work Dr Kinyungu is with his family spending quality time with them and enjoying his varied hobbies which include music, movies, dancing, sports and cooking among many others.
